"My Friend". How about this for a great song lyric.
"My friend, is the king of all kings,
and yet, my friend, walks beside me.
My friend, rules the earth and the sun
and yet, my friend, stops to guide me.
My friend, takes my hand, just when all appears in vain,
and makes it plain, through joy and pain,
He'll remain, my friend
My friend, tells me life is a road, and though it ends,
at the bending
My friend, tells me that there is a road, beyond this road
that is unending.
Someday, when I walk up this happy road, that lies,
around the bend
who will there be, to welcome me,
My Friend.
Great lyric isn't it. Never really thought about it before. It was at the top of the "pop" hit parade about 1952?.
The singer was Frankie Laine, unfortunately I don't have the information on the names of the writers although I have tried "Googling".
In those days I never thought about the meaning of the words, now I have a lot more time to think, and remember his recordings, on "grammyphone" records in those days, of hits such as "Answer Me" and "I Believe".
I wonder what would happen if they were re-issued to-day with all of the publicity that modern C.D.s and Artists get.
