Bones of Christ?.

  • Bones  of  Christ.

Recent newspaper articles about the discovery of the burial place of Jesus are very interesting.  If we ignore the possibility of the whole thing being a fake, and we are all well aware of the many "fakes" that turn up, and, accept that, these are the remains of a man named Jesus, and accept, that this is the Jesus  that is written about in The Bible, I strongly disagree with the many that have said, "This is the end of Christianity". Do "christians" really have to believe, that, Jesus rose from the dead and his actual body ascended to Heaven?.  For me, should the burial place and remains be proved to be those of this man that is spoken of in the bible, and I think that this will be impossible to do, it would add strength to my acceptance of Jesus, a man that set down the rules for living a decent life, and, isn't that what being a "christian" means.

    1. I read a book, many years ago, where the bones of Jesus were discovered, and it "threatened" the Christian religion, and I wondered then, if Christianity was that fragile, or that literal. I've never really believed in the resurection of the body; ascended into heaven, in the body? I don't think so. But I embrace the teachings of Jesus, as the most important and the most difficult, to follow, "Turn the other cheek," being the hardest, and maybe most important for our times. wk

    2. Hi Will, I do have a problem with, "turn the other cheek", there are just too many people in this world ready to think that you are "soft" and then try to take advantage of you.

    3. it doesnt threaten christian religion, christianity is a relation ship with the creator of all that does exsists, and the fact that somebody has some bones and sez that they are the bones of christ doesnt know christ.

    4. Hi aza s, yep, that is the problem, to know christ you must believe, but how about me that would like some proof. I have faith in things that I have proof about, things that have a scientific fact, the stories in the bible ask more questions than give me answers.

    5. Hi Trevor D. If someone today did the same ....skeptics would still provide a casket and grave ready with all the "trimmings' you know...."JUST IN CASE" it didnt go as he told them it would.....think about it....Then ask GOD to show YOU !!!! to you yourself !!!! 1st you will get and answer and then you will BELIEVE ....

    6. No, aza s, just a bit too far fetched for me, I don't know my bible that well, but, I don't know of the passage that reads, "The disciples did not believe what their master was telling them, so they prepared a casket, dug the grave, and, carved a tombstone....."., and, as for placing human remains in the casket...

My wife had faith and believed, (see, www.wordscanhelp.co.uk ), I want that faith, I want to believe, but I see to many objections to believing,I want the peace of mind that goes with belief, I want what I can't get, proof.

    7. To Trevor D. ......I am SURE you are right about that ....

    8. Well Paul said that if the resurrection is not true than our faith is in vain. So if it were true...yes it would mean that Christianity is not true.

This tomb was found 27 years ago, every Jewish scholar has debunked this as being the tomb of Christ. The Holy Sepulchre's location has been known for a very long time. It also ignores historians like Josephus and others who are extrabiblical sources the events surrounding Christ's life.

    9. Hi Elmers B, does it really matter what the ending of the story of Jesus is, if we follow the example of what we are told he did, and the things that we are told that he said, is that not good enough to be a "christian"?. To be a christian do you have to have faith in the whole story?.

    10. yes

    11. Sorry Elmer B, a one word answer is not enough. I have faith in what can be proved, we know about , for instance, the moon, man has been there and proved what we were told by scientists and experts, I now have faith in what I had been told previous to that moon landing.

I have no doubts that 2000 years ago, someone, and possibly his name was Jesus, was walking around saying and doing the right things, I do have doubts that he was able to bring a dead person back to life, but, can accept that this comes about by the story of that event being passed from person to person by word of mouth.
The stories in the Bible about this person have, what nowadays would be called, "had the attention of a "spin doctor"", they have been "embellished" to support the creation of a religion.

There is nothing wrong with that, should we all follow the basic principles of "christian" action in our lifes the world would be a better place.

Yes, perhaps I envy those that have this "faith", and I do think about it.

Elmer, I am not trying to "push" my website, it's non-commercial and an attempt to help those persons grieving after the loss of a loved one, in "My Story" I do write a little about religion and why we need the church. www,wordscanhelp.co.uk

    12. try reading Josh Mcdowell's "More than a Carpenter" or any one of his other books on apologetics like Evidence that Demands a Verict I and II. Like you I needed reasons for believing...Mcdowell lays out a very good case.

I used a one word answer because like I said Paul said if Christ did not rise from the dead than our faith is in vain.

May I suggest you start with reading the Gospel of John. Each gospel portrays Christ in a different way.

More than a Carpenter is an easy read (130 pages).

Lee Strobel also has written some very good books. He was skeptic (lawyer and journalist) and became a Christian after finding out for himself.

Hebrews 11:1 says that Faith is the evidence of things unseen...so in other words it's reasonable. The proof you're looking for is in the empty tomb. If Jesus lived (historically and legally this is a fact) then sometime he died. The question is what happened when he died. The conclusion after studying what the alternatives could be that I came to was that He did rise from the dead.
