Council Tax.
Here in Scotland, council tax has suddenly jumped to the front of all manifestos in the parties' attempts to win the pensioner vote.
But, where were the concerns of the Lab/Lib group, not to mention the opposition parties, over the last eight years.
At present, I pay 12% of my annual income, whereas others in exactly the same house pay just 6%. As there are two, three, four and five people in them, my demand on services is up to one fifth of theirs.
Of course, I am fully aware council tax is a necessary part of paying for services, but the basis for working out the payment must be examined, and the value of the house, (market value), that has been paid for with taxed income, should not be part of it.
We all get just one bin collection, one police force, the same roads and water. To be fair, everyone has to pay something, and this includes those on benefits.
The only system that may be fair to all is a fixed percentage of annual income.
